We welcome new members. We do not audition, but familiarity with reading music is helpful. Some of us can sing from sight, some work out the parts on instruments at home and some learn from the wealth of sources available on the internet, such as Youtube and choralmidi. As a beginner it’s possible simply to copy what the person next to you is singing!
We rehearse at St Mary Oatlands church hall (Map) on Tuesday evenings between 1930 and 2130, followed by tea or coffee and snacks. After this a few of us retire to the pub.
You are welcome to join us for two to three rehearsals to make up your mind whether we’re right for you. Please call Andrew Miller on 01932 344542 or Chris Evans on 07900 907738 to arrange a visit. We do ask for a commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals. If you find you have to miss several rehearsals in a term, we would ask that you withdraw from the concert and then rejoin us at the start of the next term – but come and be part of the audience for the concert if you can!
What do we wear for concerts? It’s dinner jacket with red bow ties for the men, and long black skirts or trousers and black tops with red scarves for the women. The ties and scarves are provided by the choir.
Membership costs £70 per term. We think that at under £6 per evening, this is good value, particularly as it includes the hire of all the music (though there may occasionally be the opportunity to buy your own copy if you wish.)
